October 2nd, 2009 — Random Thoughts
Update: Email servers were restarted and voila, everything’s fixed. This was Wednesday roughly noonish. We have a company instant messenger for back and forth communication (works great by the way) and this was my immediate IM to IT.
Me: So what you’re saying is that you didn’t think to restart the servers on Monday when you found out about this issue?
IT: (Silence)
And I still managed to land 14 links by the end of today (Thurs)

This week has been one of the most frustrating weeks of work in a long time. Our owners decided to sell off one of the e-commerce sites we operate and it actually happened to be our original site. So all email servers for all the newer stores were basically connected to each other with your original site’s email addy being the main email account. Not sure if that makes much sense, but lets just say, all email correspondence has in a sense, been f*cked since last Thursday evening when the official swap to the new owners took place.

So Google was acting all whack today and displaying some blatant spammers when I was performing some search queries this morning. I wish I could divulge exactly what it was, but I won’t here, but if you stroll on over to my Twitter page, you can most certainly find out.
After that early morning mess, there was some stuff breaking on Twitter about Google releasing a ‘new Search-Based Keyword Tool’. So I went and checked it out, and lo and behold it was the same keyword tool they released back in April I believe. I think it was the fact that Google finally added a link on the old keyword tool with the following ‘new’ icon that made everyone go crazy about it and tweet away.

So today is my first real day with this blog in action and being totally connected to the SEO world via Twitter, my blog, and my normal daily reads within the industry. In case you didnt hear, Google ‘officially’ stated that they do not take meta keywords into account for search engine rankings. They did however, state that they do take into account some meta tags, meaning meta descriptions. So just to be safe, throw your keywords into your meta descrip.
My boss also pointed this gem out to me, posted by Rand at 1:30 am on Thursday of last week (interesting time?) in which he ‘officially’ changed his personal stance on paid links. I read this post twice. Here were my two very different reactions. My first:
